I'll tell you anyway Julie. <g> Mandrake Control Centre System. The traffic
light is the configuration tool for the display manager.

WARNING!!!
If you change it you'll be kicked to the new log-in screen and have to log
back in. Don't say I didn't...

Problems are nothing more than opportunities for personal growth Julie. I'm
sure you've learnt that.

I was apologizing not for what may have come across as impatience that time,
but in advance if I ever actually do display impatience. To you or anyone
else. OK?

So obviously something is wonky in the KDE system on that machine. Read
Stephen's replies again and ask questions. Someone knowledgeable around here
will likely help get you back to "normal."

What's normal? (-;

Find a hidden file in your /home directory called xsessionerrors. If you can
read it you may learn what went boom. Since you can't seem to do anything in
KDE at the moment you may have to open it with nautilus or midnight commander
or...?

emacs or vi maybe?

Never. I don't get mad often. Just even. lol

I wish I'd been of some help Julie. You're welcome anyway.

For that culture shock I recommend intensive therapy, starting here:

http://www.onlamp.com/linux/cmd/

A directory of Linux commands taken from the book Linux in a Nutshell. It's
something I think should be required reading for anyone that grew up with
Windows.
