Thanks to all that offered suggestions.  I eventually did an upgrade 
installation and installed all the components.  It may have been 
more than I needed but I wanted to make sure I got all the 
components.  The upgrade fixed the acrobat error I was getting and 
the problem I was having getting kde to run.
