[newbie] Installing on an ATA-100 system

  The other night, I helped a buddy build a new system.  It has an AMD 1 GHz
CPU, 512 MB RAM, 16x/40X DVD/CD drive, Matrox G400 dual-head MAX video,
Creative Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 (comes with a remote control for
the sound card!!) dual 7200 RPM IBM ATA-100 hard drives.

  We could boot the kernel from the DVD drive but could not install Mandrake
7.2. What does one have to do to get Mandrake to install/run upon an ATA-100
attached hard drive?
