It is very sad but you *will* be trashed/flamed by the goon squad no matter what you say or do from here on in. I have received a number of notes from people asking me not to reply ro them on the Board for fear of the goons. It is very, very sad. This WAS a great support Site and still has many fine people here, but they are being overwhelmed by the dog squad. But don't let them beat you down - these are the losers in life - for it is only the losers who are ever viscious. Stick in! You will get help if you ask for it. BUT You are not allowed to criticise. My GCC, make and other tools worked fine before I installed 8.2. I didn't break it, the install did as near as I can tell. My 'technique' is the same as it was before. Even though I'm a newbie to Linux, it's not hard to untar, make config and install a package. I have not been able to install ANY package since installing 8.2. Something changed. I was evaluating Mandrake Linux as a possible alternative to desktops in the corporate world. If the support I got for this boxed copy of your distribution is representative of the value that can be expected, then perhaps Mandrake Linux is not ready for prime time, however much I wanted it to be.
