Tom, Now you've got me wondering. I had been using Reiser and hadn't had any trouble at all, but a few months back I bought a brand new Dell and when I loaded Mandrake on it I chose XFS as opposed to Reiser. Mostly because of what I'd been reading here on the list. as I understood it Reiser was concerned mostly with the metadata of the files and not the entire file itself, whereas XFS looked after the entire file. header and content together and was able to recover both if necessary. am I wrong in my understanding?
