Hi Rick,
I would think you need something like these provided from my ISP:
search wowway.com
nameserver 66.133.217.2
nameserver 66.133.217.3
OK - I put in my two local nameservers but no difference.
Well, ping shouldn't work if resolv.conf has only that line you show
in it ( nameserver 192.168.0.1 )
can you try either:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/~ # tail -f /var/log/messages
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/~ # tail -f /var/log/syslog
then try to connect. Maybe that will tell you something.
Sadly no - nothing.
Do you have a firewall blocking port 80 ?
Not that I'm aware of (how would I tell?) - this is a completely vanilla
install of Mandriva - I went into the Security settings and tried a
'poor' security level as a test and that did not help.
Why does telnet try 1.0.0.0 when I type 'telnet www.yahoo.com 80' ?
This may indicate the routes are broken - but as I say other internet
apps like FTP work ok, so the routes are fine. I just tied mail and it
complained:
/usr/sbin/sendmail: No such file or directory
Am I looking at a bad install?
Thanks,
David.
