I think so, it should be provided by your ISP ? I would think.
do you mean the *checkbox* for "Get DNS servers from DHCP" ?
Mine is checked to do so ... and I would think you should use their
domain for DNS lookups ...
Well, I just unchecked that, put the DNS servers in the settings manually and hey presto! http now works! COOL

Obviously what was happening here is that FTP and ping were forwarding their DNS lookups to the gateway in such a way that they were understood, but HTTP wasn't. Hardcoding the DNS servers in has sorted this... until my ISP decide to change their server IPs :-) Raises an interesting question about how HTTP formualtes DNS requests - one which I'm most likely to forget after tonight :-)
