One more idea.... the bike performs especially cruddy at low rpm in the first 10 mins after starting. After that it gets better.
Sport bikes rev up to 15k, its a whole different monster. While the nighthawk does have an inline 4 cylinder, that's about where the sportbike similarities end. I've seen some great articles on re-covering seats. Use the foam you put under your home carpet and make the seat about 500x more comfortable than stock. Re-cover with vinyl.
