On the topic of recovering seats, I did my own with a seat cover from an e-bay seller. The cover was ~$50, all you needed was a pair of needlenose pliers (to get the old cover's staples off) and a staple gun (hand squeeze type was fine). I added an extra layer of carpet foam to certain areas, since my existing foam was in reasonably good shape. I picked up mine from a seller named "gumtwo," and it went on easily and seems to be really well constructed.
