I've got a 1986 Rebel that takes ages to warm up and then has a bit
of a dead spot although the bike may just need some more riding.
It's done less than 20 miles since I got it going - want to see

as well, because the factory has them too lean. Mine stock did
have a 2500 or so RPM stumble, I think the washer mod fixed that.
Adjusting the pilots made it warm up much faster and now it only
needs choke when it is like 40 degrees or colder.

Although it is true these bikes go better above 2k rpm's, I don't
think they should run bad at lower rpm. My 750 runs just fine at
low rpm, and I think Allen's bike too. I would recommend Seafoam,
cleaning the carbs (since you said it is a new bike for you, you
might not know how it was treated before), and yes, the washer
mod. It is a very cheap, easy to implement modification which I
love. It really changes the character of the bike, but in a very
subtle way. I also apply the washer mod in my wife's Suzuki
gs500e, and it makes run much better too.

from an e-bay seller. The cover was ~$50, all you needed was a
pair of needlenose pliers (to get the old cover's staples off) and
a staple gun (hand squeeze type was fine). I added an extra layer
of carpet foam to certain areas, since my existing foam was in
reasonably good shape. I picked up mine from a seller named
"gumtwo," and it went on easily and seems to be really well
constructed.
