thanks for the input, after i posted last night i was looking at parts diagrams and some videos online (just to see what the back of the motor looks like) and it looks like there should be enough room to slip the yoke off the back w/o removing everything! I've been taking pictures of stuff I won't remember as I go (electrical connectors, order of plug wires, etc)... I kind of expected to have oil running out as I move the engine around, I need to drain the oil yet, but I figured if I can get everything disconnected I'll be in good shape.
I don't have a shop manual, does anyone know the torque specs for the crankcase bolts and the torque steps/pattern when putting everything back together? as for the not shifting while stopped... mine had been doing that before, now it just doesn't shift at all... stopped or moving, engine running/not running... Its almost like something is preventing the shifter from finding the next gear and its stuck in between gears. While I have the bike apart i'm going to inspect the bottom end of the engine too, just to make sure nothing is damaged there, so we'll see how this goes!
