I do not mean to state an option, only the facts as I see them. Whether or
not I believe current airport security is adequate is irrelevant.
Statistically, the United States has one of the safest airline systems in
the world. However, security at our airports could be tighter, and it could
be looser. The people of USA (in the past) have made a conscious decision
to have a little less security and a little more freedom. I simply believe
that we will see a shift to more secure, less free airports. Eventually,
people will complain about the inconveniences though, and it will be
interesting to see what happens then.
It is unrealistic to believe that terrorism will ever be eliminated, just as
it is unrealistic to believe that our airways will be completely secure.
However, the government must do something to comfort the population.
Implementing new security procedures, which still may not have prevented the
incident, appears to be their solution.

So you are saying that we should change the premise of our nation, because
of some coward terrorists? We should give up our freedom and have a nation
of tight security stopping and cavity searching each individual in the
country that goes on a plane? Your logic is flawed. We should not have to
worry about this kind of threat to begin with. These people are the devil.
You being in the technical world, you should know. No matter what you do to
fix a security breach, there is always another back door that people will
find. These people can not be bargained with, they can not be deterred in
their mission. The only out is to destroy this trend of thinking. They can
be as determined to come to our country for 20 years. Work for an airline
for 20 years, and then decide to take over a plane or put a bomb on it. This
is not short term thinking, this is long time planning. There is only one
answer. Destroy terrorism. Listen to Congress, they are much smarter then
you and I. I would like to see you give up something you love for a bunch of
terrorists. We don't sacrifice safety and security in this country for
convenience. US, has the most safest, securest Federal Aviation in the
entire world! We were just the target. I think we do a much better job than
anybody else does.

Craig is correct. The analogy may not be perfect, but the point is. In
this country, we sacrifice safety/security for convenience. If we strip
searched everyone and everything that got near an airplane, it would be
nearly impossible to sneak something on. But that's not convenient. This
will change though - no curb check in, only passengers allowed in the
terminals, no carry on luggage, no pick-up/drop-off at ticketing, etc.
These are losses of convenience that Americans are willing to make right
now. I think that airports are going to start looking like a scene out of
Lebanon.

I fail to follow your analogy, there is no such thing as "secure"

I sit here, watch TV, and see people everywhere asking, "How could this
happen in America to Americans." Then I see my users bitching because they
have to use an 8 character password with number and letters. Don't they
know it's that kind of thinking that brought down those buildings? When
will people learn that they cannot be secure without inconvienance?
When someone complains about complex passwords tell them, "That's the kind
of thinking that causes airplanes to crash into buildings!"
