Hey Tim,

You can try using a Normals node after the ReadGeo node with the 'action' knob set to 'build', and adjust the 'angle threshold' knob to fit your needs.

Anyone have a solution that stays in Nuke? (Re-running the Alembic files with 
subdivided geo is an option, but not a good one for this situation.)
