Like many before, I am not an OBC member but I am an active cyclist with an interest in the Ottawa cycling community. I emigrated to Canada just over 12 months ago from Yorkshire, England where their is a long history of road cycling with a choice of many cycling clubs.
I subscribed to the list to find out more about the OBC and I must admit that the attitudes of certain board members have put me off from joining. Most clubs back home have the same problems especially when members of the committee/board start to become egotistical. However, the difference being is that back home cycling is still a 'working mans(peoples!)' pastime and problems are usually sorted out very quickly since the committee/board are approachable. Reading the list I can't help but notice that some board members do come over as elitist and unapproachable which I believe causes ill feeling toward the board and OBC in general. I thought I had left the class system behind in England. Up to this point in time I have only seen negative responses to making the OBC news list server members only. Since the OBC board are representing the OBC members, are their any members on this list who actually agree with this decision ?
