Perhaps because you came to OpenSolaris after Roy's term ended, you
are not aware that Sun invited him to join the initial OpenSolaris
Community Advisory Board, and then the inital OpenSolaris Governing
Board to help guide the creation of the community and it's constitution,
bringing to us his experience from the Apache Foundation.

Roy's contributions to OpenSolaris, as far as I know, have all been
around building a community governance model that lets the rest of
us concentrate on building an operating system.

As for people being interested in building an operating system, I'd
say we've got no shortage of them, but we've also got many who would
have liked to be asked before you told them that you had decided
Project Indiana was now the OpenSolaris operating system we're all
building, instead of the previous models we'd been using for the past
two years.
