I think you might have misunderstood Ryan's point--assuming, of course, that
I understood it myself. :-)

I believe what he's saying is slapping D20 conversion notes at the end of
book just to get the impact of the D20 logo isn't what WotC had in mind.

For example, the Deadlands D20 book isn't planned to be a set of conversion
notes. Rather, we'll be rebuilding the system from the ground up ind D20 to
make it as close to the presentation in the Player's Handbook as possible.

In that fashion, there's very little learning curve for a player who wants
to experiment in a non-traditional setting, and any investment they make in
other WotC products retains as much of their value as possible.

Of course, this isn't totally altruistic on our part. Much of our material
is purely setting and not system based, so it retains _its_ value for D20
users as well. ;-)
