>I write in Word and DTP in Quark.

Quark is by far the industry standard. Pagemaker is evil and best avoided.

I'd suggest (based on my own experience) that while .PDF is easy it's not
optimal. Most reputable printers will take a .qxd (Quark Xprress Document)
with .eps and .tif image files. And don't forget your fonts!

Learn about separations, the difference between CMYK and RGB, what spot
color and process color mean. Learn about prepress, blueline proofs and dot
gain. You need not know any of this but the more you know the better
equipped you'll be. It may all be electronic nowadays but at the end it's
still ink on paper.

"Moralists have always wondered helplessly why Poe's 'morbid' tales need
have been written. They need to be written because old things need to die
and disintegrate, because the old write psyche has to be gradually broken
down before anything else can come to pass. Man must be stripped even of
himself. And it is a painful, sometimes a ghastly process."
