As long as you have a big enough blank border, and use a color coordinated tape
I don't see why not.  We have used this method a few times with fine results for
small print runs.  The only time I ever had a problem was when the cover was
printed on an older Tektronix wax thermal printer, the image ran near the tape.
I haven't seen a problem with using a good color laser print on heavy stock.

We were pretty impressed the last time we did this, and have been thinking about
buying our own tape binding machine now that the costs for a desktop model are
under $1,000.
