Just of offer an example...

Class:Munchkin
Hit Die:D20
Class Features:
Level 1:+10 Attack
Level 2:Damage Resistance 10/+1
Level 3:Pick 5 Feats
Level 4:+10 all saves

Etc...

Note that nowhere do I say HOW you go up a level, just what happens when
you do.
