Here's the thing... all of that stuff that wasn't on the Wizard's Website was released under what was (It is effectively dissolved now) called the "Gentlemen's Agreement". What that said was: "All of this stuff on the opengamingfoundation website will be released under the OGL eventually, however we're going to make some changes... before the 'Real' release. Please use these monsters/items/rules/etc at your own risk as once the real release is done you'll be expected to abide by that version."
In other words, The mind flayer that everyone treated as open content was as open as the mind-flayer from the MonsterManual.. in otherwords, not at all. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Davide Inglima" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 14, 2003 12:01 PM Subject: Re: [Ogf-l] The SRD has been updated! > Steve Creech wrote: > > Ecohawk on the EN Boards just posted this: > > > "Based on my first run through the SRD, the following creatures all seem > > to be missing: > > > -Beholder > > -Carrion Crawler > > -Displacer Beast > > -Kuo-toa > > -Mind Flayer > > -Slaad > > -Umber Hulk > > -Yuan-ti" > > But, correct me if I am wrong, if I already downloaded their descriptions > from an older copy of the SDR I may continue to use them... > > I'm saying this because, if I'm not wrong, section 4 of the > Open Gaming License says that the OGlicense is PERPETUAL, so anyone > who already has an old released copy of SRD can use his dog-like > friendly and tea-drinking version of Mind Flayer... or at least its own > stats... > > So WoTC is only doing this for clarification and for making her own job > easier in order to define a "reasonable common ground" for the producers > of D20/SRD compatible material. > > Am I right? > > -- > Davide Inglima > "The question of whether computers can think is like the" > "question of whether submarines can swim." -- Edsgar Dijkstra > http://www.educ.di.unito.it/~st970743 > mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > _______________________________________________ > Ogf-l mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://mail.opengamingfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/ogf-l _______________________________________________ Ogf-l mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.opengamingfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/ogf-l
