from an older copy of the SDR I may continue to use them...

I'm saying this because, if I'm not wrong, section 4 of the
Open Gaming License says that the OGlicense is PERPETUAL, so anyone
who already  has an old released copy of  SRD can use his dog-like
friendly and tea-drinking version of Mind Flayer... or at least its own
stats...

So WoTC is only doing this for clarification and for making her own job
easier in order to define a "reasonable common ground" for the producers
of D20/SRD compatible material.

Am I right?
