You may want to read the Everquest Open Content declaration carefully. There's a LOT of stuff in there which is fully open and which is useful to any SRD-derived game. Things like, oh, THE ENTIRE COMBAT RULES WITH FULL, DETAILED, EXAMPLES.

Sorry to shout again, but the EQ Open Content declarations are wonderfully broad, and they're a gold mine for anyone planning a standalone SRD based game. Many kudos to the S&S team for their generosity with open content.

As far as I know, EQ had no special contracts or deals with WOTC.
