The problem as seen from the above is that qmail-send is not able to
read from the mess directory.
What are the values of Run As User and Run As Group
in /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf
What is your conf-split number (split directories in mess) and the value
that is set in /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf?
Also what is the output of:
ls -l /var/qmail/queue/mess/153/5914694
