I agree, it's a convenience thing. The question is,
who do you want to make it convenient for. Hopefully
the only guy that has to battle with the maven release
plugin is the release manager. Checking out the code
is something that all developers and a lot of serious
users do all the time. Don't know about git, but I
would be seriously disappointed if this (to my mind
standard) svn layout threw a spanner in the git-svn
works.
