That's odd: I've exactly the same problem on my U20. It only has DVD-ROM by itself. I therefore connect an external LG Dual Layer burner - sometimes via USB2.0. Other times via FireWire. Nevertheless: Circa every second DVD (Top quality brands including TDK, "+" media, "-" media, no matter what I tried. Every second disk is crap. The only thing I found out so far is, that power management might be (one single) part of that problem. The liklyhood of experiencing the crash is lower, if the box is freshly booted (or maybe if I disable PM). I also reset the drive every time in advance: # dvdrecord -v -V dev=2,0,0 -reset The problems look like this: The medium is initiated, the burner starts blinking, I see the progress of MegaBytes burned so far, and teh it suddenly stop - after ca. 100 to 500 MB's. Yes, it STOPS. Then one might see tmeout warnings after ten minutes or so (Observe, that BURN-Free was active!): bash-3.00# dvdrecord -v -V dev=2,0,0 -reset Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.01.01b03 (i386-pc-solaris2.8) Copyright (C) 1995-2005 Jrg Schilling Unlocked features: ProDVD Clone Limited features: This copy of cdrecord is licensed for: private/research/educational_non-commercial_use TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM scsidev: '2,0,0' scsibus: 2 target: 0 lun: 0 Warning: Using USCSI interface. Don't know: I thought this might be a bug in SXCR snv41. But it now looks like this has to to with the U20??? I _never_ had the described situation a single time when burning on my SPARCle 500SX on sparc. I only started using my U20 for that purpose a few days ago, due to limited hdd space on the sparc laptop. -- Regards, Martin > > I had the same problem -- cdrecord reported that the drive was returning a > servo motor failure error..
