After having advocated Linux for more than a decade, I don't see any point of discussing operating system(s) with the general public: Most of them don't any choice, either because they are limited by the application programs they are accustomed to running or are dictated by their job environment. Instead, I have found it to be much more productive to talk to decision makers and/or those privy to the decision making process. Compared to the general public, this group of people are more willing to sift through the obvious things, and have resources to improvise. Almost w/o exception, all of them have heard about Solaris, and view it with great respect.
