YES ! I have successfully installed OpenSolaris. Apparently the ragged-tail of the partition was the problem:
I booted from the Ubuntu-Live CD, and changed the linux-swap partition by shrinking the end of it by ~5Mb (the min 1Mb difference got ignored). This caused an additional partition after. Booting the OpenSolaris 200805 and running the install was then the piece-of-cake I originally expected it be. Now I have to recover from the two weeks of creating plan B and C and D and E, not to mention forgiving myself for the (mental) abuse I gave myself for getting into this mess. :^) Thank you JKEIL for your diligence.
