OK, the fdisk workaround I think I can do: after the OpenSolaris LiveCD script
dies and I'm still in the OpenSolaris GUI, I do the fdisk fix, and that'll set
the partition so OpenSolaris will finish the install.

I get that 6600281 indicates editing a script to include the 430 chipset, but I
was installing from the GUI OpenSolaris_2008.05 CD I installed from
www.opensolaris.org/get (and in case I didn't mention it enough :^) this is
new to me).
I've found reference to a script apparently related to the 430 chipset
bugreport you mention:
