As a PT, yes it may be in our practice but if we are true to our profession
then we should be treating differently. Yes, I may state that I assist in
aiding a person to get dressed but that does not mean that I am teaching them to
dress as an OT would, rather I am increasing ROM and/or strength to a specific
joint so that it can functionally allow the person to dress themselves.
Unforuntaly I am disappointed in the majority of PT's and OT's because there are not
that many that do understand the differences and are not able in educating a
patient on the differences. I think it is us as a professional that needs to
speak up and make sure our patients do understand, this is the most effective in
keeping the professions seperate. Only over time with education and constant
reminders to all of the difference in the profession that hopefully the up and
coming generation as myself can make the sepearation of the two. If someone
was to constantly call you by the wrong name, you would speak up and correct
them, as for your profession we should all speak up and correct people.
