The MySQL server has other applications already connected to it without issue. also the otrs database has been created an populated with tables. I think what it boils down to is the windows bundle installer wasn't written to use an external database... I would happily use the internal db server if there was a post installation migration path to the desired database server. Or a way to enter the correct information into the correct configuration file by hand
