I saw the Channel 9 early news show (whatever it is called) this morning. They had a piece on this issue, which consisted of: 5% of the time spent describing the results of the research. 95% of the time spent talking to an obstetrician who had free reign to attack the report, its methodology and results. He then went on to *categorically* state that ultrasounds were absolutely safe, and that no research whatsoever has shown otherwise... He pointed out that almost all Australian mothers have an ultrasound, and as there hasn't been "a rash of mental problems" (and I quote), it must be safe!
