It is hard for women to say no when it is sold so well - "Let's just have a
look at this baby, shall we?" It's this us showing the mother thing,
described so well by Barbara Katz-Rothman.

It used to be "let's have a feel of your tummy"or "let's have a listen?" And
even then it should have been "Do you mind if I have a feel of your tummy,
or a listen to the baby?" (an 'ask' not a 'tell')
