The only VW I've owned was a '61 bus that had quarter-cylinder windows at the back corners and a transplanted '67 Beetle engine whose exhausts came out into the rear bumper so there were soot stains up the back. Note that this was the first vehicle I ever owned, and it was sold before I ever had my driver's license; I'd driven it quite a bit for practice with my dad along in the passenger seat, but the one time he tried to drive it he discovered that the transaxle was in bad shape and decided it was better to part with it than try to repair it.
