Kevin,

Have you tried to adjust the screen's horizontal & vertical sizes on the
displays controls? They may be way off, as well at the settings for the
horiz and vertical positioning. If the display has a reset button for
settings (usually right there with the monitor's display controls), try that
first.

Another possibility is that the monitor's control circuitry may have gone
bad, and can't hold the display within usual bounds. Umm, I don't recall if
the 8500 has built-in video or not. If it does have vid built-in, connect a
different monitor and see if that works any better. It's possible that the
video circuitry of the 8500 my be faultly.

Does this monitor connect directly to your Mac, or did you have to use an
adapter? Some adapters have dials and mini DIP switches that need to be set
for proper viewing; if you have one of these, I'd try the manufacturer's web
site for setting instructions if you don't have them handy. There are also
adapters that have nothing to set (I believe these only allow the display to
work at a single, set resolution).

I'm no display expert, and apologize if you've already tried these obvious
things... Good luck!

---Alex
