I'm worried about loosing the nice software that came with this computer that was given to me. Pagemaker, office, video editing software etc.

Is it possible to format another hard drive with the HFS+ and have this one with my programs on it at HFS?

I think Steve might worry that even without the HFS + option the
 >installer may overwrite his data.

Absolutely Steve. Familiarize yourself with the jumper settings of both drives and the easiest way is to keep the termination at the CD ROM as it is from the factory. Keep one drive at id = 0 and the other at id = 1 or 2 .

If you haven't done this before don't worry .  It's easier than it might seem.
