Bruce, Bruce, Bruce... Let me remind you that this is the good 'ol Legacy Mac list, not too much Modern talk please! Modern is a different god... I did have a zip drive go bad once, I now have three externals (very cheap) and very reliable and lots and lots of disks. I do not use them for long term backup. They have proved invaluable for large jobs that have lots of parts. Their very tough, compact discrete nature are ideal for temporary backup of parts of the job, their limited capacity and advantage to me (If I used a CD I would BU more stuff and lose the physical file system qualities). Sure, I would not particularly recommend zips to folk with G4s that can use CD RW easily. No, I have not had all the trouble some people have had with zips. I have had so good a run on the whole that I will see if i can get at least one of my external scsi zip units gold plated and maybe a couple of the disks too for keepsakes for the future. When it comes time to get a G5 I will make a little museum for all this legacy stuff. In the meantime, I must pop in my password controlled zip to get access to a list of all my passwords... my, my how easy it is to spot, it is a bright yellow and stands out from the black, blue and red ones in their see-thru cases. All my CDs are this sliver colour and all look the same... ho hum... David Elmo -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
