iTunes says the drive is not supported .Can I update drivers? I searched the Apple, com wisdom and found plenty of info about drive compatibility for the PC I don't have.
Check xlr8yourmac.com's drive database. they may have a hacked driver for your mechanism.

is close to that stuff. I saw os 9 tricks, too. I was surprised at how easy it was to turn my CDR into a supported device, and it was nice to see the burn icon when I dragged the CD to the dock!. I've only made a couple CD's, but somehow I got the feeling that it was/is that simple. I believe there may be FireWire hacks there too.
firewire or ata connection the mechanism is the thing. If you look in system Profiler, you'll see that the drive mechanism is reported on the firewire port.
