firewire or ata connection the mechanism is the thing. If you look in system Profiler, you'll see that the drive mechanism is reported on the firewire port.

Well in the best of all possible worlds as Candide might say.
I put a music CD in and looked at ASP. It sees a card in the slot with no return ID. And no drive recognition.
Perhaps that is the problem iTunes gets no drive info at all?
The card works fine for most activities but has a shutdown issue.
I bought this card on the recommendation of another PCI lister. The price was right and it touted advanced technology.
But has no brand name on the otherwise normal looking box and none on the card either !
A Taiwanese plot ? It came with a mini CD with many Mac and PC drivers. No instructions meant there was a lot of experimentation to get it going.
Except for the shutdown reluctance it has done everything I need it to do until now.
I guess I thought if iTunes can play CDs from it it could see it for burning too.
I have a MacCally FW card coming from the swap list in about a week maybe that will solve it. I'll put the mystery card in
a 7X00 machine. I need a better one in my 9600 which is turning into something of a workstation.
