Hi folks! Newbie on this list!
So: I got a 8600/250 from a friend. Worked fine, except couldnt get it
online. Kept returning a weird IP-address, so it wouldnt speak to my DSL
router nor my little hub.
Bought a PC-type PCI ethernet card, figured I could always get a driver
on-line (with my other mac, & then copy over w/ a diskette).
Inserted card in vacant slot, fired up, dead mac. Not even chime.
Took out card. Dead mac. No chime.
Found Cuda-button & pressed. Dead mac. No chime.
Took out processor daughter card (the one sitting 90 degrees on top of
MoBo), pressed Cuda-button, replaced card, dead mac. No chime.
Managed to press Cuda-button again, with processor card in place. Dead
mac. No chime.
Now, the Pram-battery is dead. The question is: Have I fried some vital
part of the Mac, such as the processor part (the result of starting up
without it in situ was just the same as with it: Dead mac. No chime)?
If I put in a new Pram-battery, do you think the Mac will wake up, or do
you think the Mac is now a write-off?
