I seriously doubt it's the disks that are going bad, but a cdrw drive problem. You don't say what software you are using. If adaptec, make sure you get all the latest updates and patches. Clean the drive, try different media, and possibly a firmware update. You can also try changing it's IDE connection assignment. -Clint

Most of my uses are for archival purposes, so it is not like these disks are getting a lot of use. I keep them all in CD Envelopes (the kind c the cellophane window) then filed in my old 5.25 floppy boxes, lid down. Either that or jewel boxes. Granted this is not hermetically sealed, but dust is minimal. What happens is I would insert a burned disk and after a while, get error messages. "The disk has experienced an unrecoverable error. It is recommended you move all critical data off immediately." After a couple of occurrences of this, and I attempt to insert the CD again, the system will hang as the disk attempts to access non-existent (or at least non addressed) data. Even if I remove the offending disk, the system will stay in an almost hung status. The cursor will respond jerkely (word?) and only after several seconds (5-30) has elapsed since I moved the mouse. If I insert that same disk into my laptop I get similar results. As far as I can tell, disks that were burned on my laptop can be read on both machines indefinitely.
