Thanks Ed, but I know that, that's what I've been doing, but it's
not working. Since that was not 'my original post' so to speak,
I didn't go into details....but will now.

I hate the XP icon theme, I guess I'm just used to 98/ME icons.
I was able to change many of them, I even brought the shell32.dll
file from ME to XP and I'm using it ok in most cases. I can't
find the old calculator icon, it's not in the shell32, it's in
the calc.exe file so I'll have to get it off a '98 PC. With the
control panel, for some reason every time I try and change it
back to the 98/ME icon (that yellow folder with the hammer and
screwdriver on it), it won't work. I pick it, and it STAYS the
XP default control panel icon! Odd. I even tried on it the old
shell32 file (which is working on some other icons), but it won't
work as well on the control panel icon. I find myself searching
all over the desktop for that 'yellow folder with hammer and
screwdriver' on it, since for 5+ years that's what I've been
looking for! Funny how we get trained on certain things!

I guess what I'm going to have to do, is take the icon from the
shell folder using IrfanView, save it as a .ico, create a hidden
folder called 'icons', and 'browse' to it. Yep, that worked.

Clint,
Just read your post about having an Icon problem
with changing Control Panel Icon on desktop.

I just made a shortcut Control Panel on my desktop.
Properties - Change Icon - Apply
and it works on my XP-Home Edition.

I have an icon problem with XP as well. To mention one, I can't
change my control panel icon on my desktop. It won't "take".
