When I supported a Lotus Notes environment there was all sorts of people getting confused on where replies ended up and so forth.Yes, I just left a support list for my own mail program because I couldn't stand the rigid insistence on one, and one only, method of posting. Since I read in a window, I rarely scroll past old to get to new. Another person on that list believed there were no messages, simply strange re-posts of original messages, he never scrolled to the bottom of the post to discover differently, it was the only time I ever smiled while dealing with conversational and bottom posting on that list.

Following is the first paragraph from <http://mailformat.dan.info/quoting/top-posting.html>
"The most heated debate regarding the format of electronic messages is the one about how to arrange quoted material and your response to it in replies. In just about any newsgroup or mailing list, whether the intended subject matter is cats or football, the "Great Top or Bottom Posting Debate" has flared up, producing "religious wars" that are akin to the fictional war in Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels over which side of an egg to crack."
When I use Forte Agent for all my email and my newsgroups there would always be conflicts from different posters using different readers. It never ended, it was really quite hilarious.
Now in reference to which side of the egg to crack on, it depends on the egg, I'm an egg farmer and I have seen some strange eggs with odd angles shells and what not....
