I don't use the software that came with my camera in order to transfer pix
from the camera to the computer.
I have at least three programs on board that I can use to capture the
pictures from the camera, only one is the one that came with the camera, but
they all do the same thing. They all say it's not plugged into the usb and
it's not turned on when, in fact, I have done both of these things before I even
opened the programs.

If I plug into the USB port, the camera shows up as a separate drive in
WinExplorer.
Until I wrote zeros two weeks ago, mine did, too (in My Computer).

(Mine shows as F:) You may have to refresh the view in WinExplorer in order
to see it. Of course, the camera needs to be turned on and set to the correct
setting for transfer.
As far as I know it is on the right setting, but, since I know have
the day off, I'll look at the manual before I try it again.

I can delete the pix on the camera from WinExplorer also, but if I do this, I
will get a BSOD, warning that I'm deleting from an open folder. This has
never hung up the computer, but I don't do it because I don't like seeing that
BSOD!. So, I unplug the camera from the computer and use the camera's delete
function.
        What's a BSOD?

I've never tried moving pix from the computer to the camera.
Neither have I. I've never even thought of it. Other than
tranporting pics from one puter to another, I can't see what purpose this would serve.

I don't know why you must use 2 cables in order to transfer your photos.
Me neither, but that seems to be the only way I can get the pics to
puter until just now (yesterday).
