Clint again thanks for the reply and I assume that you mean a single port went bad. I have changed to other ports but that did not help.

I wanted to delete all USB items in the device manager and then let windows reload at startup but can't get my hard wired keyboard and mouse to work. The mouse works for awhile up to the end of everything loading then it freezes.

Meanwhile I have tried the device on a third computer with the same os and everything works fine so it is this computer.

On most mobo's you press the [delete] key while booting. On others it can be F1.

The fact that it DID work previously, is a different story. It would seem (if you didn't change anything) that a USB port went bad.

Clint, Thanks for replying. I just tried 3 times to read that screen at the start up on how to get to BIOS but have failed 3 times. Something
about enter and delete I think. It flashes too fast.
I'll check those things when I get to the screen.

Both computers are using XP.
They are both USB 2.0
Also when I first tried the device, which was 1 or 2 weeks ago, it worked fine. Now it does not. I tried to go back to a restore position
of 2 weeks ago but that did not help.

Right off hand (and going on no sleep.... again), are both PC's
set the same in the BIOS for "PnP OS installed..... yes/no"?
Does the one that doesn't recognize it have enough USB ports
enabled in the BIOS? Is there a "Legacy USB" entry in the BIOS
on that one? If so, that may have to be enabled.

Have you tried to go to "Add New Hardware" and have it scan
automatically for new devices? I assume they are both XP PC's?
If not, and it's a '98 PC, they sometimes need patches for
certain USB devices.

Is this device USB 2.0? If so, then maybe the PC doesn't
support USB 2.0 devices.

I have a device that is recognized on one of my computers using
the
Windows XP while the other computer will not recognize this
device. It
will recognize other devices though. I was going to delete the
USB items
in the device manager but because I am using wireless Logitech
keyboard
and mouse I would be unable to use the computer anymore. When I
install
the device then go to device manager it shows up as "unknown
device" and
I have tried installing other drivers but nothing seems to
help. There
is no software with the device. (the device is a Iway 350 gps)
Thanks
