Both Ben and Clint set Windows Update to tell them when to install updates,
but not to do it automatically.
I turned it off now (a perfect example of locking the barn door after the
horse is gone).\
Can anybody - anybody - anybody on the group present an opposing argument -
to allow Microsoft to install automatic updates?
After all, there must be another side to the story, but I can't see it -
especially after my experience last night.

A related point:
The Windows Help and Support Center gives intentionally misleading
information about the Automatic Updates "feature."
It says, "How can I be sure that updates are safe to install?
Windows uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to encrypt the transfer of system
information and updates between your computer and the Windows Update Web
site. Each file that you download using Automatic Updates has a digital
signature from Microsoft. Digital signatures are designed to ensure the
authenticity and integrity of signed files. Automatic Updates will not
install files that do not contain the correct digital signature."

That help file left out one point - the update itself may damage your
system. All of their talk about SSL and digital signatures has nothing to do
with the damage that can be done by the update itself!
