Daryl I would strongly disagree. Unless you have used 'robust' in a way not intended I would suggest Acrobat is an extremely robust architecture for housing and distributing various media. In previous version prior to 6 I would definitely say limited in it's features and range of media, but that which COULD be inserted was bullet proof. This is true. As you are probably aware since V5, you could make PDFs right out of PPT and it would take over the PPT transitions into the PDF.
