The problem we run into most often is with color being RGB. We have been able to work around a lot of problem color ads by usingAcrobat 5. If the color portion is a photo within the ad, it's usually not too much of a problem, except that we often won't find out until it doesn't separte to film. Then it's a mad dash to try to fix the file.
Pitstop includes preflight tools that will flag RGB images. It also has the ability to convert RGB to CMYK using the default profile or your own. With Acrobat 5 and above, there is also a built-in image edit tool that will open the selected image in either Photoshop or Illustrator, depending upon how you set up your preferences, correct images, and upon closing the image will update it in the PDF file.
We are on Mac's, I think my 'new' computer will be running in OSX classic (our G3's were stolen). We impose our pages in Quark 4 to send to film.At this time, Pitstop does not run on OS X, as a plug in to Acrobat 6, but I understand an update is imminent.
So if you had to pick only one, which one would help us the most?Manufacturers such as Heidelberg, Creo, and Agfa include Pitstop in their PDF workflow tools.
