What version of Distiller are you using?

With AB 6, you have several choices:

Smallest file size (fonts do not embed)

Standard and Press Quality (fonts embed and subset)

If you do not have AB 6, then you should use the above references to select
your settings. A word of caution, however, if you use fancy fonts and want
the PDF to look like your original file, then you should embed and subset
those particular fonts even when you are making a smallest file size PDF.

Subject: [PDF] acrobat distiller options

HI
Within Acrobat Distiller; preferences I have set True Type Font: to
Substitute with Device Font and not Download as Soft font.
Could someone please explain the differences between these 2 options, I have
learnt the basics but not much more.
I use pdfs for print and online, but tend to use 'run of the mill'
fonts, but not sure that I have chosen the right option - although
Substitute with Device Font has not given me any problems, I am taking a
training day next week with members of the dept and I am sure somebody is
going to ask me the 'whats the difference?'.
Is it irrespective what option I choose, as I am embedding all fonts within
distiller and always make sure that I have the correct font on my PC.
Regards Lewis.
