Title: More on RGB photos
Pagemaker has some goofy issues regarding picture boxes. They aren't always selectable depending on one's Distiller settings (re: DSC). These need to be turned off in Distiller's job options.

A PDF workflow in a department such as yours can be a real boon, or boondoggle. This PDF was problematic from the very beginning because it was not made using the Distiller PPD and/or the original images were RGB. This PPD needs to used to create an Acrobat Distiller printer "and" a copy of the PPD needs to reside in the RSRC folder within the Pagemaker application. Many people don't know this.

If the original images were RGB, the simplest method of conversion would have been for the customer to print a composite gray PostScript file using the Distiller printer.

As it was, when you ripped the color file to whatever output device you have, you could have simply selected the print to composite gray selection in your print driver.

When making PDFs for copy machines you need to use the Print Optimized settings (Acrobat 4 and 5), or Standard (Acrobat 6). You use the Press settings when printing to an offset press.

I'm willing to provide you further information or assistance offline if you wish to write me directly.

Subject: [PDF] More on RGB photos

More information - the pre-press area did attempt to change the RGB images to grayscale using Pitstop but was unable to open or alter the majority of the photos. So the question that needs to be asked is there a setting we need to be aware of when creating the PDF that would prevent the image from being opened and changed?

I used the "Print" profile in Acrobat 5.0 when creating the PDF. Specifically, are there any settings under the advanced tab that would make the image unaccessible if unchecked?
