I don't really understand - you mean that if the lens is stopped down, then
the AF inaccuracy is neglible? If that's what you're saying, I can't agree.
Something is either sharp or not. Even when stopped down, there's a definite
plain of focus that you can see on the print.

? What does it have to do with a tripod? Why no tripod for testing AF
accuracy?

But closer distances bring shallower depth of field and therefore are better
for testing focusing accuracy - tested on a subject positioned 20m from the
camera would be sensless IMO.
